Sommelier Cellar - Share something special

The SommelierCellar Producer of the Month

Santa Ana, our producer of the month for June

Every month we choose a wine producer that we think our members should be paying special attention to due to the quality of their wines and the character of their vineyard. This month we're pleased to recognise Santa Ana, an Argentinian producer situated high in the Andes, and one of the oldest in South America.

National Drink

Argentinian wine has come a long way since the Spanish first started planting grapes there in the 16th century, and the country is now the fifth largest producer of wine in the world. Production has matured in the last few decades, and emphasis has gradually shifted from quantity of output, to quality. In 2010, wine was officially recognised as Argentina's national drink.

The Fame

Bodegas Santa Ana is based in the Cuyo region of Mendoza, close to where the mountain scenes of Seven Years in Tibet were filmed. The vineyard was established in 1891 by Don Luis Tirasso, who, as well as being a wine grower, was a keen car enthusiast who later used his international connections to important Bugatti sports cars.
